To develop the custom English D Special, we commissioned luthier Dave Talsman, who has been hand-crafting ukuleles in his Michigan shop since 1998. He favors a more traditional Martin-style design -- simple yet elegant -- and after months of exchanging ideas back and forth, we’ve come up with a unique ukulele with exceptional sound, playability and looks:
- 23” soprano size with a 13.625” scale length (available in tenor, too)
- Honduran mahogany top, back, sides and neck
- Black ABS body binding
- Ebony fretboard, head veneer and bridge
- Pearl rosette and fretboard markers
- Gotoh UPT tuning pegs
- Corian nut and saddle
- Transparent black nitro lacquer finish with deep, rich mahogany tones
- Freemont Blackline Fluorocarbon strings
- Available with or without strap buttons
- Numbered and signed by Dave Talsma
Estimated build time is approximately 12 to 18 weeks. You can add initials for $100 by adding Initials for custom uke to your cart.
This beautiful, high-end custom ukulele is solid mahogany, which resonates more freely than the laminated wood (plywood) found on most cheaper ukuleles, giving it more warmth, bass, and volume.
